| Edan spent his childhood in rural Kentucky and was strongly influenced by the beauty of the Bluegrass country. This awareness of the grandeur of nature set the stage for his lifelong passion for early California art - again, a celebration of the wonders of nature. Upon his return from military service, Hughes settled in San Francisco and began his study of the early artists of California and for fourty-four years has actively studied and collected this genre. Maintaining extensive research files, Hughes has dedicated these many years to combing the backroads as well as the mainstreams, expanding his files to ultimately realize a long-time dream of a legacy - Artists in California 1786-1940.
