Trude HANSCOM
1890 - 1975
Gertrude Fandrich was born in Oil City, Pennsylvania on December 6, 1890. She began her art studies at Syracuse University. After her marriage to Charles Hanscom and moving to southern California about 1930, she further studied at Scripps College, University of California at Los Angeles, University of Southern California, and the Otis Art Institute. While a resident of Los Angeles and Arcadia, she taught art in Alhambra and Glendale high schools. She died in Santa Barbara, California on June 7, 1975. Member: California Art Club; California Printmakers; American Graphic Artists Society; Women Painters of the West; Pasadena Society of Arts; Glendale Art Ass'n. Exhibited: Golden Gate International Exposition, 1939; Arcadia Art Festival, 1951; San Gabriel Art Festival, 1951-55 (prizes); Pasadena Museum, 1953. Works held: California State Library; Library of Congress; Metropolitan Museum; National Academy of Design; Pennsylvania State University.
