Artist Biography

1903 - 1996

William Persona was born in West Virginia on April 12, 1903. He studied at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts and came to Los Angeles in the 1920s for further study at the Otis Art Institute. He then worked as a cartoonist for the Hollywood Citizen News and Long Beach Telegram. For a few years he was an artist for the Sydney Daily in Australia. Upon returning to Hollywood in the 1930s, he made props for the movie studios. He was a resident of Laguna Beach until 1972. At that time he had painted about 4,000 paintings. Leaving California, he retired to Hawaii and died on Maui on April 30, 1996.
