1893 - 1942
Gounod Romandy (1893-1942) was born in Coronado Beach, California on April 18, 1893. He was a pupil of Jakob Koch, Jack Wilkinson Smith, and Roger Sterritt at Los Angeles High School (1911-15). He also studied music with the Los Angeles Symphony Orchestra and J. Bond Francisco for 13 years, and was a solo violinist with the Walt Disney Studios (1935-40). He died in Los Angeles on February 19, 1942. Member: California Art Club; Laguna Beach Art Ass'n (second vice-pres.); Painters & Sculptors of Los Angeles. Exhibited: Los Angeles County Museum of Art, 1936 (first prize); Laguna Beach Art Gallery, 1939 (solo); Society for Sanity in Art, California Palace of Legion of Honor, 1940; Painters & Sculptors of Los Angeles, 1942; Webb Gallery (Los Angeles), 1942 (memorial). Works held: Newport (CA) High School.
