Jessie N. WATSON
1870 - 1963

Jesse Nelson Watson was born in Pontiac, Illinois on January 13, 1870. An architect, he was a self-taught artist who resided in St Louis, Missouri from 1909-27. He then retired to southern California to devote his remaining years to painting. A highly accomplished landscape painter, his works include scenes of the Sierras and the desert areas of southern California. Watson was a resident of Glendale until his death on May 13, 1963. Member: Pasadena Society of Artists; Painters & Sculptors of Los Angeles; Long Beach Art Ass'n; Laguna Beach Art Ass'n; Santa Monica Art Ass'n; California Watercolor Society; Society for Sanity in Art. Exhibited: Academy of Western Painters, 1931-38; San Francisco Museum of Art; Oakland Art Gallery, 1936; Ebell Club (Los Angeles), 1939 (prize); St Louis, Missouri, 1943; California Palace of Legion of Honor, 1945. Works held: California Historical Society.
