Ruby Walker Usher (1889-1957), an etcher, miniature painter, and illustrator, was born on April 20, 1889 in Fairmont, Nebraska. She studied at Art Institute of Chicago, Carnegie Institute, American School of Miniature Painters, the Grand Central School of Art in New York City, and with Will Foster. She was active in Los Angeles from the 1930s until her death there on September 14, 1957. Exhibited: California State Fair, 1937-41; Golden Gate International Exposition, 1939; Women Painters of the West, 1940-46; Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts; Ebell Club (Los Angeles); California Society of Miniature Painters, 1938, 1944; California Palace of Legion of Honor, 1944; San Francisco Museum of Art, 1945. Works held: Gardena (CA) High School; Oakland Museum; Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.
