1912 - 1989
Carl M. Thorp was born in Lubbock, Texas on November 14, 1912. After moving to California in 1928, he studied in San Diego at the State Teachers College and Academy of Fine Arts under Maurice Braun, Alfred Mitchell, and Otto Schneider. Following WWII he moved to San Francisco and had a studio-home at 2733 Lombard. He was active in the local art scene until the late 1950s when he married and moved east. He continued to teach and work at his studio in the French Quarter of New Oreleans until 1975. Summers were often spent in Rockport, Massachusetts. His last years were spent in Franklinton, Louisiana. He died there in December 1989. His work includes views of San Francisco, landscapes, and marines.
