Artist Biography
John C. SANDEFUR
1893 - 1971
John Courtney Sandefur, an etcher, was born in Alexandria, Indiana on May 26, 1893. He studied at the Herron Art School in Indianapolis and at the Art Institute of Chicago under Allen E. Philbrick. He lived in Chicago for several years before moving to Los Angeles in 1930. He worked there as a commercial artist until moving to Pacific Grove, California in 1948. There he developed a series of greeting cards of the Monterey Peninsula which were very popular. Sandefur died there on May 27, 1971. Member: Chicago Society of Etchers.
