1902 - 1990
Justin Faivre was born on November 9, 1902 in Matthews, Indiana. At age five he moved with his family to Portland, Oregon where as a teenager he studied at the Portland Art Gallery and privately with Howard Ellis. He moved to Los Angeles in 1923 and in the late 1920s moved to San Francisco. He began exhibiting in 1934 (his works were shown at the Oakland Art Gallery in that year) and continued to exhibit throughout the San Francisco Bay area. His earlier works are representational and include mostly landscapes, some portraits, still lifes, and marines in oil and watercolor; while his later works are more abstract. After 1940 Faivre made his home in Oakland at 1631 Rosedale Avenue where he remained until his demise on November 19, 1990. Member: Hayward Art Ass'n; Alameda Art Ass'n; Society of Western Artists.
