1900 - 1974
Nadine Porter was born in Oregon on May 19, 1900. She arrived in California about 1920. After graduating from University of California in Berkeley, she further studied at the California School of Fine Arts. She married artist William Torrance in 1935 and worked on the Works Progress Administration Art Education Program in the 1930s. During her last 20 years she was employed as a draftsman by the United States Navy. Mrs. Torrance maintained a home in San Francisco at 656 Vermont until her death on February 11, 1974.
